Revision Hip Replacement

Some patients will require a change of their existing implants. This is call a "revision". There are multiple reasons for require implants to be changed but the most common are for a deep infection, loosening of the implant from the bone, wearing out of the implant or if the implants are coming out of joint (dislocation).

A revision procedure is a larger undertaking than the initial surgery and may require a more prolonged period in hospital with different types of implants being required to be inserted. An infected hip replacement may require an extended course of antibiotics and more than one procedure to ensure all of the infection is removed.

If you require a revision procedure then I will discuss the whole process in detail during our consultation.
